UK IFA seminar series success

Between January and March 2020, FVC teamed up with leading UK structured product providers Investec and Dura to hold a series of regional events. A total of nine were held across England, Wales and Scotland. These two-hour seminars were aimed at financial advisers responsible for existing or new structured product business for their firms. The seminars featured presentations from all three companies to groups of around twenty financial advisers in an informal format allowing for plenty of interaction.

Providing analysis and market updates

The first session started with FVC giving an overview of the structured products market in the UK – typical product types and terms as well as the key issuers and distributors active currently. FVC also gave the results of its annual structured products results survey. This showed that of over 1100 UK retail structured products that matured in the last four years, none have lost money for their investors. The average return is 7.24% p.a. for capital at risk products, and 4.08% p.a. for capital protected products. The capital at risk group outperformed a FTSE-100 ETF total return over the same period (6.78% p.a.) and the capital protected sector comfortably beat gilts and cash deposits.

Investec and Dura then discussed their flagship offerings in detail. Investec are best known for their structured deposits as the obvious vehicle for capital protected products, while Dura gave some insight into why their Dual Index Auto-call is a good solution to provide a high target yield with plenty of downside protection.

Platforms and adviser due diligence

After a break the second session looked at more practical matters, ways to invest on different platforms and further breakdowns about what outcomes to expect and how to explain them to clients. FVC talked in detail about its free research platform, www.structurededge.co.uk. This service analyses all products in the UK structured product retail market. FVC also gave details of the Adviser Enterprise tools it is developing which will provide a complete solution for IFA firms wishing to structured product business efficiently and compliantly. This service enhancement will be available later this year

All the events were in top venues around the country and provided attendees with 2 hours of accredited CPD. Sadly the London event had to be postponed due to the current health situation but further seminars will be planned as soon we are able.
